Deb has over 20 year experience as an Ecological architect. Her specialism is in low-impact architecture, adaptive reuse and landscape-led design.
Her commitment to sustainable design began while studying at the University of Liverpool in the early 1990s. Since then, she has worked with practices including Austin Design Works and collaborated with therapeutic architect and author Christopher Day.
As a certified Passive House Designer and Permaculture Design Practitioner, Deb brings a systems-based approach to energy, materials, landscape, biodiversity and wellbeing.
Alongside running Studio BE, she lectures in Sustainable Construction Technology at the University of Gloucestershire and is developing research exploring Cradle to Cradle principles and regenerative design.
Deb and her husband, renewable energy specialist Ross Elliott, are currently retrofitting their semi-rural home to EnerPHit standards. The project explores how existing building materials can be creatively reused within the landscape to support climate adaptation, developing a drought-tolerant garden & a backyard forest garden both offering practical models for resilient, low-impact living.
